REPRESENTATIVE JESSICA GONZÁLEZ ANNOUNCES REELECTION CAMPAIGN FOR TEXAS HOUSE DISTRICT 104
DALLAS – Today, State Representative Jessica González announced her campaign to continue serving House District 104 in the Texas House of Representatives. After the most harmful and hateful legislative session in decades, it is clear that Texas’ House of Representatives needs more members to showcase Rep. González’s brand of leadership, courage, and dedication, not fewer.
State Representative Jessica González issued the following statement:
“In Greg Abbott’s Texas, billionaires get what they pay for. After this most recent legislative session, it’s become clear that the Republican Party’s vision for Texas won’t be fulfilled until every public school is shuttered, until every woman has lost her bodily autonomy, until every county and state jail is overflowing with nonviolent offenders, and every dollar appropriated for school districts, Medicaid, and Social Security is slashed and used to pay for tax breaks for robber barons like Elon Musk and a militarized ICE that actively deports U.S. citizens. These are not the acts of a Republican Party worthy of our respect - these are the actions of a morally depraved gang of bullies who should be held accountable by voters next year. I’m running for re-election to make sure these bullies learn their lesson.”
“In District 104, where school-aged kids depend on summer lunch programs run by their neighborhood schools, children in my neighborhood will go hungry daily solely because of Greg Abbott’s veto in the middle of the night on Sunday evening. Working families in our community need more help from Texas to find and buy fresh, healthy foods - that’s why I was proud that H.B. 1203, my bill to create the Office of Food System Security and Resiliency within the Texas Department of Agriculture, passed out of the Texas House in April, but ultimately died in the Senate. I’m running for re-election to pass this important legislation so that urban and rural communities have the tools and support to end systemic food insecurity in Texas.”
“Texas’ LGBTQIA+ community was also viciously maligned by Republicans this past session after the public was served an expensive campaign of lies during last year’s election cycle. 200 bills were filed with the intent of isolating children from supportive atmospheres in school and at home, limiting academic freedom, and erasing the identity of trans children and adults. Through diligence, grassroots activism, and teamwork, the Texas House LGBTQ Caucus killed 94% of these dangerous legislative proposals. Big fights were lost and bad bills were passed, but we haven’t lost hope for a more inclusive future because the LGBTQIA+ Texans haven’t lost hope, either. I’m proud to serve the membership and our community, as Chair of the Caucus.”
“As long as the Texas legislature is a body that rubber stamps Trump’s billionaire-backer agenda, I’m going to be a pain in the ass for Texas Republicans. I’m running for re-election so my constituents have a trusted fighter working for them in the Texas Capitol. That’s why I’m running to serve House District 104 and to speak for the voiceless, and that’s why I’m asking for your support and your vote.”
